You may think that having a blog is just an online means for rambling on about your personal opinions. If you're not the type that feels compelled to "share," you probably are of the opinion that blogging is one hot technology you can afford to ignore. Think again. Here are five primary reasons why establishing a blog for your business is worth considering.

  1. Maintain your website without the hassle. A blog is an economical, easy way to manage and add fresh content to your website with less effort than conventional methods of web maintenance. New material is automatically updated, refreshing links and categories in one quick process.
  2. Search engines like blogs. Because continually updated content is what the search engines like to see, blogs overall do well in the rankings.
  3. Beat the spam filters. RSS feeds give you the ability to stay in touch with your readers without intruding through too much e-mail. If your customers subscribe to your feed they can quickly scan your latest information and pick and choose the items they wish to explore further.
  4. Reach more sophisticated internet users. Blogs have a reputation for being bountiful sources of information and the visitors to your blog are more likely to appreciate the value of the expertise you are sharing.
  5. Visitors can get involved. If you choose to allow commenting on your blog, you've set the stage for a more engaging web experience for your visitors. They can provide feedback on new products and services and let you know what improvements will keep them doing business with you in the future.

For these reasons (and more that we haven't listed), blogging is a smart move for businesses that want to connect with their customers and build loyalty.
